Russian booked for trying to board flight with GPS device

VASCO: The Dabolim Airport police had registered a case against a 60-year-old Russian national for trying to board a Russia-bound flight at the Dabolim international airport with a banned GPS device. 

The accused identified as Denis Potapev was found boarding the flight to Russia carrying a GPS device without permission from competent authority. He was carrying the GPS device in his baggage, which is prohibited to carry in handbags. It was seized from the possession of the passenger.

According to the police, the Civil Aviation Ministry has banned carriage of GPS devices in air travel, in the same manner as satellite phones under provisions of Aircraft Act read with Aircraft (Security) Rules.  

A case has been registered against the foreigner under sections 6 (1A) of Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933 and section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act 1885. 

Head constable Saish Ajgaonkar is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Dabolim Airport PI Amarnath Passi and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
