SBI’s 100th branch opens in Mapusa

MAPUSA: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar inaugurated the 100th branch of State Bank of India at Ganeshpuri-Mapusa on Saturday.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Chief General Manager of SBI, Mumbai Circle, Sudhir Dubhey and GM Harshdayal Prasad were present. 
Speaking on the occasion, Parsekar said State Bank of India deserves compliments for having 100 branches in the tiny State of Goa.
“Commercial banks are playing an active role in development of trade and industrial sector, which results in rapid economic development. SBI has also influenced the economic activity of Goa to a large extent. The services provided by SBI are better than other commercial banks,” said Parsekar. 
Deputy CM D’Souza said a business requires finance to purchase land, machinery, pay for labour, etc. “Commercial banks accumulate the savings of the general public and make them available to others for investment. This 100th branch of SBI is a full-fledged computerized bank having ATM and other banking facilities and hence it will be able to provide best services to the local people,” he said.
Sudhir Dubey said SBI commenced its operation in Goa in 1962 and during the last 53 years, they could open 100 branches and 132 ATMs in Goa.
“SBI has provided finance to mining, tourism, agricultural, industrial and trading sectors in Goa. SBI will soon provide services of payment of government fees and taxes through internet banking to save the trouble of the people from going to government offices,” said Dubhey.
