MARGAO: The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Commission Chairman Ramesh Tawadkar on Thursday assured to dispose off at least 70 per cent of the pending cases before the Commission.

The Commission is also preparing a plan to make sure the Tribal Sub Plan is put to optimum use for the tribal people of Goa.

Tawadkar informed that there are nearly 218 cases filed before the Commission some of which are pending since 2013.

“Since I took over the office I have facilitated the issuance of notices to atleast 120 of the parties involved in the cases,” he added.

"A camp was held in South Goa on Thursday to interact with the people who have filed the cases. Most of the cases that are filed are of service matters and then comes the atrocities and land-related cases,” he informed.

He also said that since taking over the office he has dispose off atleast nine cases filed by various persons.

The camp held on Thursday received great response. Similarly, camps will be held in North Goa, which has a sizeable number of Scheduled Caste population.

While speaking on the Tribal Sub Plan utilisation Tawadkar said, “The people have been complaining that the departments are not helpful for the works being proposed under the Tribal Sub Plan. On December 1, the Commission will get United Tribals Associations’ Alliance (UTAA), Gawda, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar (Gakuved) and other organisations working for Scheduled Tribes together, and will make an attempt to understand what they have to say regarding the entire matter. Guidance for applications and use of Tribal Sub Plan will also be undertaken,” said the chairman.

He also said that there are complaints regarding the educational institutions that they are not maintaining their roster. The chairman said that he will be looking into that matter too.
