MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Friday outrightly rejected all the requests made by the Wholesale Fish Market Association (WFMA) with regards to lowering of fees of the fish transporting vehicles and the removal of the time barrier for the vehicles.

The SGPDA has written to the WFMA stating that after holding discussion over the pleas filed by the association the same were rejected by the authority at the 87th meeting. The authority after considering the representation made by the association opined that as far as the lowering of the fees is concerned the revision of levy collection rates in the wholesale fish market was made after 17 years.

“Records of the SGPDA indicate that since the last 17 years there was no revision of the collection rates. The authority after taking into consideration all the relevant factors revised the levy collection rates,” stated the SGPDA.

“The authority finds that the revision is justified considering the same has been done after 17 long years,” stated the SGPDA while further mentioning that the authority were of an opinion that the Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association, who do huge business in the wholesale fish market, cannot complain about the levy collection rates.

The request for allowing the area of 5,000 sqmts of the market area for the exclusive use of the Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association was also rejected. The authority feels that it is not acceptable, as the same would result in chaos and monopoly. On opposition to the time barrier set by the SGPDA, the authority said that the vehicles which come to the market after delivering the fish and/or selling the fish are required to go back and they cannot be permitted to park their vehicles outside the wholesale fish market.

“The Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association, therefore, is hereby instructed that once the vehicles are brought out of the wholesale fish market, they should not be parked outside and should not result in parking nuisance,” stated the authority in the letter.
