PANJIM: Superintendent of Police Bosco George has proposed to include the ‘Golden Chapter of Goa’s Liberation’ in the syllabus of the Police Training School (PTS).

“The golden chapter of Goa’s liberation, along with the contributions made by freedom fighters, a few of whom joined the Goa Police force, after liberation, shall be made part of the syllabus at the Police Training School in Goa. The memoirs written by a couple of freedom fighters, who joined the Goa Police force, would definitely inspire the young, Police recruits,” he said while addressing a function at GRP camp last Friday.

George said, “One side has displayed framed photocopies of the “INSTRUMENTS OF SURRENDER” of Goa & Daman, dated December 19, 1961 and signed respectively by the last Portuguese Governor General Manuel Antonio Vassalo e Silva and the Portuguese Governor at Daman. A rare hand written copy of their intention to surrender on December 18, 1961 has also been displayed along with it.”

The other panel “GOA POLICE OFFICERS AS LIBERATORS” displays framed photos and write-ups of three Goan Police Officers, former Goa IGP (Retd) Prabhakar Sinari (IPS); SP (Retd) Vilar Viegas and late DySP (Retd) Fulgencio Moraes, who had contributed immensely towards the liberation struggle and had also navigated the Indian Armed forces, during their entry into Goan borders. “All these three officers were on the primary wanted list of Portuguese administration,” George said.

Dr Kavita Diniz, daughter of late DySP received the Commemorative Plaque of Honour on behalf of her father. While Viegas was present at the event and Sinari could not make it due to health reasons. The event ensured safe distancing in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
