PANJIM: A number of Class X students who appeared for the Goa Board mathematics paper on Monday emerged with blank faces from the examination centres. According to some students, the exam was very tough and lengthy, and they weren’t able to finish the paper.
“The question paper could not be solved in two and a half hours and required at least three hours. The questions were very tough and tricky. I did not understand the questions, they were so twisted, I failed to interpret them,” said a student, who answered at the People’s High School centre
However, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary (GBSHSE) said it has started the process of using application type of test items for Class X and XII board examinations to facilitate students to prepare for competitive exams.
“We have not opened the questions papers as yet and this can be opened only in front of the experts and only after that we shall be able to comment on it,” GBSHSE Chairperson Jose Rebello said.
Another student said, “This time round, we were presented with a paper that contained several tricky questions and was very difficult to interpret at least to the average students. The paper was tough and very lengthy and I don’t think that anybody completed the entire paper.”
Meanwhile, a group of parents of students have decided to write to Goa Board expressing their concern on the difficulty level of the Maths paper and its consequences on students’ minds.
“The faces of students when they came out of the centre were depressing. They said that the paper was tough, tricky and the application-based questions were so difficult that they could not attempt them. Another thing they said was that the time was not sufficient and they needed at least three hours to complete the paper,” said an angry parent.
