Sai Baba devotee on foot to Shirdi killed

bicholim:  A walking pilgrimage to Shirdi turned tragic for a 60-year-old Vishwas Sawant from Karapur Sarvan in Bicholim when he was knocked down by a truck on the Kolhapur-Satara highway in Maharashtra on Tuesday.

The truck driver fled away from the scene after knocking down the deceased. His body is being kept in a morgue in a Kolhapur hospital.

Sawant,  a former panch of Karapur Sarvan, residing at Lalbag Vithalapur-Sanquelim was participating in a walking pilgrimage to Shirdi with a group of about 100 Sai devotees, from Shri Rashtroli Sai Baba Temple in Sangolda to visit to Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi,  which was supposed to reach Shirdi on January 22. The pilgrims had walked about 609 kms on foot when the incident took place.
