Salcete Police go easy with matka gambling, unlike cigarette smoking

CURTORIM: In the first five months of this year, five Salcete Police Stations acted stringently against cigarette smoking and tobacco products and  booked 512 cases but have been little soft in acting against the matka gambling by registering only 59 cases.

While matka bets are accepted in most of the parts of Salcete, particularly Margao at every nook and corner including in the kiosks five Salcete Police Stations have registered only 59 cases. Out of these 59 cases Margao police have booked only 10 cases in last five months, followed by 11 cases by Maina Curtorim Police, 13 by Colva Police, and 17 and 8 respectively by Cuncolim and Fatorda Police. 

While according to the information five police stations of Salcete have booked 512 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) out of these 512 cases 224 have been booked by Margao Police, 29 by Maina-Curtorim Police, 2 by Colva Police, 92 by Cuncolim Police station and 165 by Fatorda Police.
