MARGAO:  The Nuvem and Cuncolim MLA have gone all out against Dy CM Vijai Sardessai while explaining their move to change sides on to the BJP. While they face flak of the people, they insist  they have the support of the people in their decision. The Velim MLA however, refused to pick calls.

The Nuvem MLA Wilfred D'sa said, "We had taken a decision after the CLP some 8 days ago. People are angry with Vijai. Issues like land conversions, formalin, and others have forced people to say no to Vijai. People from Nuvem and my supporters also discussed the matter and told me to go ahead with my move to remove Vjiai. I am supporting BJP and now will make sure I keep the people of Nuvem happy for future. All the people including all the panchas and sarpanchas have expressed pleasure over my decision," said Wilfred.

Meanwhile, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias said "I have joined the BJP primarily because I want development works to be done in my constituency and also because nine Congress MLA were going to join and there was no point in me continuing as an opposition MLA.

“In order to promote Yuri Alemao in Cuncolim, Vijai used to interfere too much in my constituency and engineers were threatened not to take up works that I had struggled to get sanctioned. Very often Yuri used to claim credit for works sanctioned by me, “he added. He further claimed that his family and his business had been targeted.

“I wanted to save our Goa and that is why I took this step. Congress has no leadership and there is too much infighting in the party. That is why despite being the single largest party in 2017 they could not form the govt,” he added.

Interestingly Clafacio revealed that two former chief minister were also supposed to defect to the BJP. “However, their offer to change parties was not accepted by the BJP and that is how I was amongst the last one to join the group,” he said.

He added that the CM had also promised to help him get youth from his constituency employed in the  and that by and large most people have congratulated him regarding his move except Congress loyalists.

“Establishing the rail underpass at Guirdolim, getting the Cuncolim Municipal Council functioning properly and resolving the issue of state highway are my priorities. After accomplishing these works I shall consult the people whether I should contest the next elections or not, “ he added.
