MAPUSA: The Saligao police have booked Margarida D’Souza alias Maggie, a resident of Sangolda, for allegedly forging documents and selling property belonging to the De Sa family.

On July 24, Herald had reported the bizarre land grab case.

Accused produced forged PoA as a genuine document

In this case the owner of the land, the late Diogo Joao De Sa who died in 1976, was 'brought back to life' to sign a Power of Attorney (PoA) giving Margarida claim to his property.

The Saligao Police have registered the case under Sections 465, 468 and 471 r/w 34 of the IPC.

The complainant Flory De Sa, the wife of late William Armando De Sa and a resident of Mumbai, in her complaint to the Saligao Police stated that on August 9, 2013, the accused Margarida D'Souza fabricated a PoA in favour of her name by forging the late Diogo De Sa's signature for properties bearing survey numbers 73/32, 73/33 and 79/20 situated in Sangolda village. The complainant is the daughter-in-law of the property owner.

Police said that the accused also produced the forged PoA as a genuine document in the office of the Mamlatdar at Bardez during the mutation process of the said property. D’Souza, along with her family members, then allegedly sold the property bearing Survey No 73/33, claiming to be the legal heir of Diogo Joao De Sa, without informing De Sa's 15 genuine legal heirs.

LPSI Nilam Gawas is investigating the case.
