PONDA: Due to technical snag on Thursday, the crushing season of Sanjeevani Sugar Factory, scheduled on December 15, has been cancelled.

Though the function for launching the season has been cancelled, the officials and engineers, technical staff and workers are working hard to find and fix the problem as early as possible.

The Machinery is almost 46 years old; it has not been upgraded from time to time. The officials launched a test crushing on Thursday morning, but encountered a technical snag in the evening.

But due to the technical snag, the machinery is working at a low speed and hardly crushing 300 tonnes of sugarcane per day instead of 1200 tonnes.

Last year too, after commencement of the crushing season, the machinery developed technical snag and remained non-functional for almost a month.

Due to the technical snag, the farmers are worried that the sugarcane they had harvested and brought to Sanjeevani Sugar Factory might dry up.

More than 4000 metric tonnes sugarcane has reached the factory; and many farmers in Goa continue harvesting.
