PONDA: Sanjivani sugar factory farmers led by their leader Rajendra Desai on Wednesday withdrew their agitation following an assurance from Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar to arrange a meeting with Chief Minister on Friday afternoon to discuss their issues.

The Deputy CM also promised to clear payment Rs 600 per ton labour charges towards sugarcane harvesting.

Earlier in the morning, during their protest at sugar factory premises, the farmers accused the government of not listening to their grievances and for not clearing its stand on future of Sanjivani. They claimed that the government is only giving empty promises to the sugarcane farmers.

They farmers had decided to stage a human chain agitation from Wednesday onwards.

They had decided not to withdraw their agitation till the government comes out with a written assurance.

The farmers claimed that about 28000 metric tonnes of sugarcane has been supplied by them of which only 30 per cent of the amount has been paid .

The Administrator of Sanjivani Tarik Anvar held meeting with farmers on issue during which Deputy Chief Minister had a conversation over the mobile and assured to address their grievances by arranging a meeting with Chief Minister to clear their payments.
