MARGAO: Alleging that the 16B Act was made to make money and promote corruption, South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha urged the State government to scrap the Act.
Addressing the media briefing, the South Goa MP also praised the government for bringing an amendment in the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act at the recently concluded Assembly session.
Sardinha requested the BJP government in the State to make amendments pertaining to the 16B so that the sincere people are not troubled.
Referring to the issue at the Centre, he urged the BJP government at Centre to stop harassing the Congress leaders and the Oppositions.
"Summoning of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is nothing but harassment. They first grilled Rahul Gandhi for nearly 54 hours but they got nothing and now they have quizzed Sonia Gandhi for several hours,” Sardinha said.
"The Congress has ruled the nation but was never involved in harassment by using vendetta politics to finish Oppositions. The National Herald case has been reopened only to divert the minds of the people from the real issues,” he added.
The South Goa MP charged the BJP government at Centre on the issue of inflation and raised questions pertaining to the hardships faced by the common man.
"One cannot live on air and water alone. This BJP government has completely failed to understand the hardships faced by the people and they have no control over the inflation nor have any solutions to lessen the burden of the common man,” Sardinha said.
