Savoi-Verem local  dies, two others  injured in accident

PONDA: A resident of Band-Savoi-Verem one Naresh Mohan Naik was killed while two others were injured when tempo collided with two bikes along the Bethki-Khandola road on Monday morning.

According to Police, the accident took place when the driver of the tempo laden with milk, which was proceeding from Marcel to Khandola, hit two oncoming scooters. The impact was such that three persons sustained injuries. 40-year-old Naresh succumbed to his injuries on his way to GMC.

According to Police, Naresh was proceeding on his scooter to Bicholim via Marcel and at same time 27-year-old Sameer Sakhalkar from Panjim and pillion rider Aparna Naik travelling on a scooter were also proceeding in the same direction. However, tempo which was proceeding in the wrong direction from Marcel to Khandola hit both the scooters. 

The locals shifted the three injured persons to Bethki PHC and then to GMC wherein Naresh died on his way.  Aparna was later discharged. Police said tempo driver claimed that he was feeling drowsy when the accident occurred. A case of rash and negligent driving has registered against the driver.

Naresh Naik is the brother of Nilesh Naik, who was martyred in 1996 agitation against Nylon 66 Project at Bhut Khamb Querim plateau.
