VASCO: Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said that all schools in the State will have a dedicated room for special children and disabled students, while about 40 government buildings have been provided disabled-friendly access.

The Minister further disclosed that the government has plans to make these as fundamental rights through the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act.

Phal Dessai said that besides special schools, there will be a special room as an arrangement in all schools for the special children so that there is inclusive education policy and these students will be empowered economically, socially without discrimination and differentiation.

“The Social Welfare Department has identified about 40 government buildings where many disabled persons are visiting and therefore we have now made disabled-friendly access through the Access India Campaign to provide accessibility. We have also spoken to Department of Tourism to have disabled-friendly access and we will soon provide disabled-friendly access in all arenas even in the field of sports,” he said.

He informed that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had already built a state-of-the-art school and while, the government will also organise purple festival for the disabled persons in January next year.
