VASCO: The first luxury cruise liner of the tourist season arrived at the Mormugao port with 218 passengers and 572 crew on board on early Friday morning. 

The MV Empress, owned by the Cordelia Cruises, is the first domestic ship of the ensuing cruise season. The cruise vessel had arrived from Agatti port, Lakshadweep and later in the evening it sailed to Mumbai.

Taking to its official X handle, the Mormugao Port Authority stated “M/s Cordelia's MV Empress, the first domestic vessel of the ensuing cruise season has docked at Mormugao Port on 22.09.2023, bringing a total of 218 passengers and a crew of 572. Cruise vessel arrived from Agatti, Lakshdweep and will be sailing to Mumbai @shipmin_india”

Meanwhile, as many as 72 cruises including 40 domestic and 32 international cruise ships are expected to arrive at the Mormugao Port during the current season, informed Mormugao Port sources

The second domestic cruise ships will land at the Mormugao port on October 14 while, the first international ship will dock on November 11. 

Last year too, the domestic ship by M/s Cordelia Empress was the first vessel to arrive at the Mormugao Port but from Mumbai. It had brought as many as 785 domestic passengers and 360 crew members, after a gap of two tourism seasons which were hit by Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, about 52 cruises mostly domestic cruises had docked at the Mormugao Port.
