CANACONA: With the arrival and laying of 112 eggs by the second Olive Ridley turtle at Galgibag Beach, Canacona till day has hosted six Ridleys, who have laid a total of 772 eggs this season.
Sources involved in the turtle conservation programme in Canacona said a mother Olive Ridley arrived at the Galgibaga Beach at 3.30 am on Wednesday and laid 112 eggs after laboriously digging a pit in the soft sand.
The exhausted Olive Ridley turtle left the shore after laying the last egg, said sources connected with the conservation programme at Galgibag Beach.
All the 112 eggs were later retrieved meticulously by the Forest Guards and placed in an artificial pit surrounded by plastic net for natural incubation, said Vikram Naik Gaonkar, Range Forest Officer Wild Life.
