Second lawyer declines to represent gang rape accused

MARGAO: A second advocate, appointed under free legal aid scheme, to represent the three persons accused of gang raping a young girl at Betalbatim, has declined to represent them. The case has now been adjourned to Sept.19.

Ishwar Mackwana, Ram Bariya and Sanjeev Pal are facing trial for gang rape; Adv Peter Fernandes was appointed to represent them initially, but he refused; thereafter Adv Julius Gomes  and now, the court has appointed Adv Spencer Viegas.

The Colva Police had filed an indictment on July 19 naming 55 witnesses. Since then the matter is at the stage of appearance as two advocates have declined to represent the accused.
