PANJIM: Senior opposition councillors on Friday hit out at the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for not giving seven days prior notice for the budget meeting which is scheduled on Monday, March 27.

Senior-most councillor Surendra Furtado in a statement issued said, “I am told that CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira has kept the budget meeting on March 27. Please note that a minimum of seven days should be kept besides Saturday and Sunday being holidays. It looks like the CCP wants to scuttle the debate to hide the mess created. If seven working days are not given then I don’t think I should be attending the same. You all can happily get it passed. God save CCP.”

Former CCP mayor and current Councillor Uday Madkaikar said that he received the notice from CCP on Thursday and opined that the CCP Commissioner should have at least ensured that it reached seven days prior to the budget meeting.

“I received the notice on Thursday and Monday is the meeting. How can they expect us to study everything in three days? This is a clear violation of rules. This shouldn’t have happened and I request the Commissioner to take note of it,” Madkaikar said.
