MARGAO: In these testing times, even the families of COVID patients shy away from helping their near and dear ones with the fear of contracting the deadly infection. However, there are few good Samaritans, who have continued their efforts to help these patients during the pandemic.
Nuvem constituency has two Samaritans namely Dr Savio Dias and Jolan D’Silva, both residents of the village.
Dr Savio provides free medical service and Jolan helps the patients with regards to transportation.
Dr Savio personally monitors the health condition of COVID patients undergoing home isolation.
Dr Savio, who serves the COVID patients from Nuvem constituency said, "I personally visit the houses of COVID patients, who are in home isolation and check their health status. I monitor their blood pressure and other health conditions. I have noticed that COVID patients don't know that low pressure can create major health problems due to the infection".
Jolan, who is providing his services as ambulance driver in Nuvem said, "I know it is a risky job as there are high chances of contracting the infection. People are responsible for the community transmission of coronavirus in Goa. In a day I attend to nearly 18 to 20 calls and even at night, I am ready to help the COVID patients and their families.”
Both Dr Savio and Jolan are providing their services to the people under Wilfred D'Sa Charitable Trust.
Nuvem MLA Wilfred D'Sa said COVID positive cases are rapidly increasing in Goa.
"I have been receiving several calls these days to help COVID patients. Jolan is fully dedicated to this cause by ferrying the patients in the van", the MLA said.
He informed that Jolan starts his work at 6 am and ends at 12 pm.
The MLA informed that they have Dr Savio, who is fully dedicated to COVID patients undergoing home isolation.
"We have noticed that even the family members and neighbours are scared of meeting the COVID patients. Hence, Dr Savio helps these patients by regularly visiting them and monitoring their health status", he said.
D’Sa appreciated the services of Dr Savio and Jolan in these testing times.
