PONDA: Out of 50 Government Primary Schools(GPS) at Dharbandora Taluka, locals fear that seven GPS are likely to face closure on account of poor enrolment of students as parents are admitting their wards to private schools.

According to locals the old dilapidated building of many GPS were renovated and repaired by Government, but despite this the GPS at Velip wada, Waki Kulan, Matoze, Santon and Kalsai Schools registered poor enrolment and face closure. Locals also feared that the GPS at Udhalshe and Panas Wada are likely to be closed by government since there is no enrolment. Locals said government should make effort to ensure that these schools do not close.

Dina Gaonkar, former sarpanch of Sacorda Panchayat said, last year GPS at Murge and Dharge were closed due to poor enrolment. The students from these schools have now enrolled their wards at Bolkarna and Tambdi Surla School by travelling 62 km. He said government arrange transport facility for them.
