MARGAO: In connection with the ongoing Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the discharge of raw sewage into the storm water drains of Margao, the Bombay High Court (HC) at Goa has adjourned the matter for June 11, 2024.

At the hearing, Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) said it would submit its affidavit with the registry and send a copy to the petitioner too, Professor Antonio Alvares.

The counsel for Margao Municipal Council (MMC) however, asked for a later hearing after stating that he was in some personal difficulty.

It may be recalled that it has been the petitioners contention that the unplugged raw sewage discharge was flowing out into the drains, which pour out into River Sal and also pollute the Saipem fields, thereby affecting farmers from Navelim where the fields are based.

MMC had informed the court of the notices it had issued to residential and commercial establishments found discharging their sewage waste into the drains.

The Sewerage Corporation had also informed the court of efforts to provide connections to the applications it received from establishments that are not connected to the sewerage network.
