PONDA: Frustrated over repeated complaints to the PWD officials and local MLA over the water scarcity, Shigmomand and Gaunem locals on Sunday urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to look into the matter and solve the water scarcity issue at the earliest.

“We are frustrated as our taps are running dry for the past eight days. We have issued memorandums to the PWD officials and even met our local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar requesting him to look into the matter, but till date there has been no solution. Marcaim Industrial Estate, which is closely located to our village, is getting plenty of water, then how come our taps are running dry?” Shigmomand locals questioned.

The locals feel that there is a low pressure of water due to damage in the main pipeline.

“We are getting water through tankers but it is difficult to bring the same into our village.  If  there is problem with the pipeline then the PWD should change it. Last year in February when we gheraoed the Public Works Department Junior Engineer after which he had assured us of a separate pipeline for our village, but nothing happened till now,” they said.

The villagers said, “It is now six years that they are getting empty promises and on other hand the PWD officials are not giving satisfactory replies and prefer to remain silence on the issue as to why the locals are getting low pressure water supply, besides, on alternate days.”

The villagers questioned as to why only their village face water scarcity when the surrounding villages get regular water supply.

Bandora Sarpanch Rajesh Naik said that he had informed the PWD office four months ago regarding the hardship faced by the villagers.
