PANJIM: The Shiv Sena Goa unit on Saturday slammed Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for his irresponsible statement on Benaulim minors rape case and demanded an apology from him by today (August 2) failing which Shiv Sainiks will stage dharnas at taluka level.

Shiva Sena Goa chief Jitesh Kamat told reporters that there is lawless in the State and that the anti-social elements are emboldened. Also the conviction rate is poor. Referring to the rape of two minor at Benaulim beach last week, Kamat said that their parents cannot be blamed as one of the victim’s brother had also gone with them for picnicking and therefore their parents felt that they were safe and secure.

Kamat alleged that the chief minister is trying to shirk his responsibility and is making unawanted statements. He demanded that Dr Sawant should tender apology to the parents of both the victims by Monday and if he fails to do so then the Shiv Sainiks will hold dharnas in all the talukas and will also call on the Governor to demand dissolution of the Dr Sawant government.

Kamat further alleged that the image of the Goa police was at its low ebb. “In the Whatsapp chat message, businessman Raj Kundra arrested in connection with the alleged adult film racket wanted to rent out a 10-bedroom resort in South Goa for porn shootings and was confident of managing the Goa police. This shows the credibility of Goa police”, he said.
