PONDA: AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, accompanied by his wife, launched his Lok Sabha re-election campaign by seeking the blessings of Goddess Mahalsa in Priol, on Thursday.

He offered flowers and coconut and place gharanas for his victory. Present on the occasion were BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, former MLAs Damu Naik and Vishwas Satarkar and many supporters.

On the occasion, he said he was confident of winning the Parliamentary seat for the fifth time.

He said closure of mining would not have any impact on his vote bank. “People in the mining belt know that mining was closed after the SC passed an order for the same,” he said.

However, the mining dependents have threatened to work and vote against BJP candidates for their failure to restart mining.

He said that the BJP Government at Centre is working on immediate restart of mining; and if it comes to power, its first priority would be to solve the mining issue.

When asked whether its alliance partner MGP would withdraw from Shiroda by-poll and whether it would support the BJP in LS polls, Naik said, “BJP is in constant talk with the MGP on the issue.”

He hoped that the MGP withdraws from the by-poll and supports him in LS polls.

He said that he would cover the entire North Goa constituency in the next 20 days and thereafter would hold public meetings.
