SAWANTWADI: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Sindhudurg on Wednesday intercepted a truck which was smuggling liquor into Maharashtra from Goa at Insuli, Sawantwadi. The truck’s registration number was KA 26 C 3416.

The truck driver, Jyotiba Parshuram Gawde (30), was apprehended in the operation and a substantial quantity of liquor and the truck, with a total estimated value of Rs 86.50 lakh, was seized by the LCB.

The LCB handed over the case, along with the confiscated liquor and the 10-tyre truck, to the Banda Police station.

According to information provided by the Banda Police, the truck had crossed the Patradevi check post in Goa.

It was revealed that over a hundred bags of wall putty had been ingeniously loaded alongside the liquor to conceal this significant consignment destined for Mumbai. Despite their diligent efforts, the Banda Police were unable to ascertain the exact origin within Goa or which liquor factory or dealer's godown the massive quantity had been sourced from.

It was revealed in the preliminary inquiry that the loaded truck was handed over the driver Jyotiba by some other driver in Goa as the location of the loading spot it not known. The investigation into this case is currently in progress under the watchful supervision of PSI Samir Bhosle.

The seized liquor includes 140 boxes (750 ml) of Magic Original Whiskey, 45 boxes (750 ml) of Adriel Original Vodka, 200 boxes (750 ml) of Adriel Green Apple Vodka, 415 boxes (750 ml) of Royal Black, and 240 boxes (500 ml) of Kingfisher Strong cans. This significant operation demonstrates the dedication of the authorities in their ongoing efforts to combat liquor smuggling across state borders and also proves the porous borders of Goa.
