PANJIM: Goa’s death tally due to COVID-19 continued to surge after six patients succumbed to the infection on Tuesday, on a day when 415 new positive cases were reported. Also, 272 patients recovered from the virus.

As on date, the State’s confirmed cases stood at 9444 of which 2878 are active cases while 6,480 patients were declared cured. 

Panjim is turning out to be the new hot spot for the virus with 27 cases were reported on Tuesday, taking the tally of active cases in the State capital to 122.

Two doctors attached to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) from Caranzalem, a teacher from St Inez, military staff, six housewives and three students are amongst those that tested positive for the virus. Six cases were reported from Altinho, which has so far recorded over 25 cases.

A senior doctor, area in charge of Chimbel, Taleigao, St Cruz COVID health care, tested positive for the virus. 


As per the health bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), on Tuesday, six male patients, with co-morbid conditions, succumbed to the deadly virus. 

The deceased include a 45-year-old from Goa Velha, a 72-year-old from Sada, a 68-year-old from Mestawada-Vasco, a 65-year-old from Baina, admitted in dedicated ESI Hospital, Margao. Another 73-year-old from Sada, admitted in GMC, with co-morbid condition also succumbed to infection, while a 68-year-old from Betim-Reis Magos, admitted in GMC died late Monday night. 

Further, of the 3320 samples tested for coronavirus, 415 were declared positive while 2036 are negative. The test results of 869 people are awaited. This is the second highest single-day jump after August 9 that reported 506 cases. 

There are 93 patients in the hospital isolation and 25 travellers have been placed under facility quarantine while four are under home quarantine. 

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, ‘In our constant endeavour to test maximum people in the State for COVID-19, we are happy to announce that Goa has yet again topped amongst all States in the country for the number of tests per million population with 94773 tests per million population.”
