Six panchas table no-confidence motion against Raia Sarpanch

MARGAO: Barely three months after the panchayat elections, six panch members of

 Village Panchayat Raia moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Judas Quadros on Friday. 

The Raia Sarpanch had to face an embarrassing situation as one of the panch members from the ruling group joined hands with the opposition, and tabled a no-confidence notice.  

The group of six members (out of 11) who have tabled the motion said they did so because the sarpanch failed to take the members into confidence with regard to administrative and development works. The group has also accused the Sarpanch for exercising powers not expressly vested in him by his position as panchayat leader, or under the Act, and said he was thereby abusing his position as Sarpanch. 

The six panch members who signed the no-confidence motion are Mario D'Souza, Manuel Rodrigues, Xavier Fernandes, Queeny D'Cunha e D'Costa, Peter Quadros and Minguelina De Souza.  The current political development is considered as a big jolt to Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, as he stands to lose control over the panchayat if the no-confidence motion is passed.  

Peter Quadros, who was earlier in the group led by Judas Quadros has now shifted sides. However, he defended his move, alleging that the Sarpanch was not taking other panch members, even those on the ruling panel, into confidence.  

“I had informed MLA Reginaldo about my decision, before taking the step, as the Sarpanch had failed to discuss several matters related to development and other issues, in a proper manner, during the meetings”, said Peter.
