MARGAO: The Small and Medium Hoteliers Association of Goa has lodged a strong protest against the draft rules wherein units within gated complexes/rent back premises will be classified under D Category.

The Association says that it would be unfair to small guest houses which fall under the same category.

President Serafin Cota informed that in his letter to the Tourism Department they objected to the category classification of the gated complexes and proposed that such units be classified under B Category only. While citing the reasons for their demand, the Association said that gated complexes are units which are sold to individual owners with very high specifications and same cannot be classified under C or D Category.

He said that these units are part of the development wherein the infrastructure consists of landscaped gardens, swimming pools, some complexes also have a gym, jogging track, 24 hours coffee shop etc.

“By classifying these units under D Category it would be unfair to the small guest houses which also come under the same category. This would be an undue advantage at the expense of the small Goan guest house,” he said.

Further the Association lodged a strong protest on arbitrary classification of guest houses having more the six rooms from D to C category. These criterions are irrational. It should be based on the facilities provided in the rooms rather than number of rooms,” said the Association.
