Smart City proposes to plug revenue leakages

PANJIM: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL), the special purpose vehicle for transforming the capital into a smart city has proposed to plug revenue leakages and enhance the government’s revenue.

Addressing the media, Panjim MLA Sidharth Kuncalienkar said the first installment of Rs 108 crore under the Smart Cities Mission from the Union Ministry of Urban Development has been sanctioned.

He said, “Technologies will be used for plugging the revenue gaps and bringing un-assessed and under-assessed properties into the tax ambit and improve property tax collections and revenue from advertisement taxes will be improved.”

Amongst the proposals of infrastructure and smart land use proposals, the IPSCDL has proposed to make the lanes around Church Square and the lane near Café Bhosle pedestrian paths.

Kuncalienkar said the IPSCDL will be placed at the Adil Shah Palace and as part of capacity building initiative, 25 students from Goa Institute of Mangement, National Institute of Construction Management and Research and School of Planning and Architecture will be facilitated for internships.

He said that the Union Ministry has sanctioned Rs 210 crore for Panjim. “For year 2017-18 the Union Ministry of Urban Development has sanctioned Rs 80.14 crore in addition to the earlier sanctions of Rs 59.44 crore for 2015-16.
