PANJIM: Due to the alleged negligence of Smart City authorities, the electricity cables laid at St Inez, Panjim were damaged by the workers, Thursday evening. Despite the lineman informing them not to damage the cables and the transformer, the workers went ahead doing their work by ignoring the lineman’s warning, thus damaging the cables.

“Yesterday during the work, I informed the workers not to mishandle the electric transformer. First, complete the work around it then remove it. Now without finishing the work, the workers have already removed the box before we could reach the spot. Now due to the moisture and rains, it is very dangerous to go anywhere near the vicinity as power supply leakage can be there,” said the lineman who escaped from getting a shock.

The lineman further expressed his frustration by stating that the Smart City workers not only mishandled the transformer box but also ruptured the cables that provided electricity to the neighbouring residences. Due to this mess up, the power supply situation in the St. Inez area has become worse.

There was leakage of current through the cables when the lineman went to check. Luckily the lineman was unharmed but warned the authorities about the danger. The lineman further explained that this situation could have been fatal wherein not only the lineman repairing the cables but any local, pedestrian or animal could get a shock.
