South Goa police capture fugitives involved in burglary and chain snatching cases, from UP

MARGAO: In a successful operation conducted by the South Goa Police with assistance from the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi police, two fugitives connected to the Sancoale house burglary and Loutolim chain snatching cases have been apprehended. 

The accused, identified as Anas Shamshad Ansary, 22 and Sajid Shamshad Ansari, 36, both hailing from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, were handed over to the Verna Police Station for further investigation. 

While two more accused individuals are currently on the run, multiple police teams are pursuing across different States. Police sources said that the gang has also been involved in various crimes in Hyderabad, as well as in their native State of UP.

A case was registered, and during the investigation, it was discovered that the arrested individuals were involved in gold ornament snatchings reported in Verna Police Station and 

Maina-Curtorim. Additionally, they were responsible for a chain snatching incident in Chicalim and a motorcycle theft in Nuvem, Belloy. Furthermore, they allegedly snatched gold ornaments from an 

elderly woman in Ambora Loutolim.

According to the police, a patrolling team from Vasco Police 

Station received information about an ongoing house burglary on Monday. 

The police rushed to the scene, but upon realising that the authorities were closing in, the burglars brandished a homemade pistol, firing a warning shot into the air. Subsequently, the culprits fled, leaving their motorcycle behind.

In their efforts to apprehend the suspects, the South Goa Police formed a dedicated team and utilized technical surveillance, local intelligence, and analysed CCTV footage from various locations. A suspect named Anas, a native of Meerut, was apprehended, leading to a coordinated inter-state operation with 

the assistance of the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police. 

Eventually, another accused, Sajid Ansari, was apprehended in Meerut. The Director General of Police in Goa has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the team's swift response.
