Candidates  file nomination for post of Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council   

SANGUEM; Following the resignation of Suryadatt Naik from the post of Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council, two time councillor Romualdo Fernandes today filed his nomination for the post of Chairperson before the returning officer Laxmikant Dessai.

The nomination form was seconded by Amita Mapari. At the time of filing, the nomination form Fernandes was accompanied by Fouziya Sheikh, Amita Malaria, Queiroz Cruz, Sanjay Raikar, Caitan Martins Fernandes and Maria Macarenhas.  Incidentally though there were rumours of another councillor Prakash Gaonkar filing the nomination form, he did not file as yet. However there is time till 12.00 PM tomorrow to file the nominations. However with Amita Mapari proposing Fernandes, there are good chance of Fernandes getting elected unopposed.

LPG tanker falls on its side while descending the Partagal slope.

Canacona: A fully loaded LPG tanker while on its way from Mangalore port to Goa lost control at a dangerous turn on the slope at Partagal in Canacona on Saturday evening. The driver and cleaner of the ill fated tanker escaped with minor bruises and injuries.

In a fourth accident involving a LPG tanker in the past one year the driver of a tanker MH-04-GC-8279 carrying liquefied petroleum gas from Mangalore port to the bottling plant in Verna. After negotiating a sharp turn while descending the Partagal slope in Canacona, he lost control over his vehicle and fell on its side on Saturday evening. Luckily both the driver Jeth singhrawat, and cleaner Khima Ram , both residents of Rajasthan sustained minor injuries and where discharged after administering first aid at Canacona health centre.

Market complex at Wadem colony needs repairs urgently  

SANGUEM; The market complex at Wadem Colony No. I constructed by the government at the time of displacement of Curdi Villagers is totally in bad shape and needs urgent repairs.

The building constructed some 40 years back lies in shambles. The wooden rafters which house the market complex are on the verge of falling down due to the seepage of monsoon water. The roof tiles of most of the shops inside the complex are broken. Moreover even the concrete pillar which keeps the building intact have developed cracks with iron rods seen protruding out at the base of the main concrete pillar. Sources revealed the complex houses six shops and have a room meant for relaxation of doctors working at the Government Sub Health Centre at Wadem.
