PERNEM: Tension prevailed in the Korgao gram sabha over the works undertaken in the private property at Konadi ward through public funds.

The tussle started between panchayat member Abdul Karim Yasin and Rahul Bhagat as both the rivals charged at each other and nearly came to blows even as villagers tried to pacify them.

Bhagat claimed that though retaining wall has been built in a private property, the same belongs to public as it was built by utilising public funds. He demanded to know how the village panchayat granted NOC to construct the retaining wall in a private property. He demanded that a resolution be passed to withdraw the NOC granted to the works.

This enraged panch Abdul Yassin, who told the gram sabha that permission was duly obtained from the panchayat. KorgaosarpanchAnuradhaKorgaonkar said that the panchayat had received letters from the PWD and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department and that the panchayat had no power to withdraw the permissions granted to the works. She also requested the gram sabha not to raise the matter since it was now subjudice.

The gram sabha later passed a resolution demanding to dereseve the Pernem constituency, which is currently reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) communities for the next Assembly elections.
