PONDA: The residents of Dhavalim, located in the Kavlem Panchayat, are deeply concerned about the speeding vehicles on the accident-prone Dhavalim bypass NH. They are demanding immediate safety measures to prevent accidents or slow down vehicles.

In the densely populated area of Dhavalim, there are two junctions with median gaps near the Shri Bhagawati Temple. These junctions pose a significant risk to the lives of locals traveling from internal roads to the highway.

The residents are urging the authorities to inspect these median gaps/junctions and implement safety measures such as installing signal systems, speed breakers, or zebra crossings.

The recent fatal accident involving Pandurang Naik, a former Panchayat member and husband of Kavlem Sarpanch Manuja Naik, has heightened concerns. He was struck by a speeding car while crossing the junction on his scooter near the Bhagawati Temple and tragically succumbed to his injuries at GMC on the same day. Additionally, the residents have witnessed several incidents involving the loss of cattle near this junction, further highlighting the dangers posed by speeding vehicles.

The locals are particularly alarmed by the reckless parking of four-wheelers by industrial workers at the Dhavalim Junction roadside. They are calling for the installation of ‘No Parking’ signs at the junction where the internal road connects to the highway. Furthermore, they have identified the road near the Satyanarayan Temple underpass as another accident-prone area due to the absence of speed breakers despite being hot mixed.

It's not just the Dhavalim junction that poses risks; the entire Dhavalim-Farmagudi road is deemed accident-prone due to its numerous sharp bends and unsafe median gaps. The residents are urging authorities to take immediate action to address these safety concerns and prevent further accidents.
