State gets 50k PPEs from Centre to fight COVID

PANJIM: The State has received 50,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the Centre for the doctors and staff fighting the COVID19 pandemic.

Secretary Health, Nila Mohanan, informed the State Executive Committee (SEC) that 50,000 PPEs have been allotted to Goa by the Government of India. “In view of this, the department is reducing its plan for the immediate procurement of the PPE kits locally,” she said.

She added that one more private lab has been allowed to collect the throat swab for COVID testing in Goa. 

Mohanan also informed that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has issued fresh guidelines on the use of Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19  preventive purposes. The SEC asked her to circulate the same.

She further mentioned that a system needs to be developed to make available the test report to the concerned person. To this, the SEC asked the Information Technology Director to coordinate with Secretary Health for developing a suitable mechanism.

Further, the Managing Director (MD) of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) informed the SEC that 151 KTCL buses were operational today.  HE added that some buses have been planned between Mumbai and Goa to ferry nationals of Iran. For these buses, advance payment has been received. The SEC permitted these bus trips outside Goa.
