Panjim: As heavy showers continue to lash Goa, throwing normal life out of gear, the State has recorded 26 per cent excess rainfall for the season so far. 

The coastal State has been witnessing heavy rains since first week of July. 

Since July 1 till Wednesday morning (8.30am), the State witnessed nearly 18 inches (446.1mm) of rainfall. 

July 3, with four inches of rainfall, has been the second wettest day of the season after June 17 (5 inches). 

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) records, since June 1 till 8.30 morning of Wednesday, the State received 60.44 inches (1480.9mm) of rainfall, as against the normal average of 48 inches (1176.2mm). A 26 per cent excess rainfall has been recorded so far. 

From Tuesday 8.30am to Wednesday 8.30 am total of two inches (51.1 mm) of rainfall was recorded.

The month of June itself recorded 42 inches of rainfall. The south-west monsoon had hit Goa on June 10. 

The State’s average rainfall is around 121 inches (2975.6mm). 

Meanwhile, IMD has warned of heavy rainfall, accompanied with gusty winds reaching at speed of 45-55kmph till July 12. 

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea during the period due to rough sea conditions. The Mormugao Port has been directed to keep a hoisted signal to avoid any untoward incidents in the sea.
