PANJIM:   In the last 24 hours, Goa recorded the highest ever 951 cases and also registered the highest ever deaths of 11 patients in a single day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The  active Covid-19 cases tally touched 7052 on Sunday.

Six patients died at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, as per State Health Department’s bulletin, and four at South Goa District Hospital with one patient succumbing to the virus at Hospicio, Margao.

The patient who expired at SGDH within 10 hours had symptoms of fever, cough, loose motions and breathlessness since the last 2 days. The patient referred from Sawantwadi was brought to GMCH in hypotension and respiratory distress.

The patient who was brought dead to Hospicio was found postmortem to have ARDS due to COVID-19 infection.

The daily bulletin also states that 105 patients were hospitalised, 401 went into home isolation and 531 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. 

The upward trend of COVID-19 positive cases since last week of February has raised serious concern in the State. The last largest daily spike was 927 - as per the Health Department's bulletin on April 16, 2021, which surpassed to 951 cases - as per the department's daily bulletin on April 18, 2021. 

The concern also arises as the recovery rate has dropped to below 90 per cent at 88.19 per cent. 

Area wise, the Urban Health Centre Margao has the highest 777 Active cases followed by 615 cases at Primary Health Centre Porvorim. Active cases at PHC Ponda registered at 478, PHC Cortalim has 457 cases, UHC Vasco has 455 Active cases, UHC Mapusa 453 cases, UHC Panjim 444 cases and PHC Candolim 440 cases.
