State to host science conclave named after former CM

PANJIM: The State government will host a science conclave in December, which is named after the late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. 

The event “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” with the theme “Science for Vibrant Society” will be organised by government-appointed Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Jose Manuel Noronha, Chairman of Goa Public Service Commission and the Goa State Innovation Council. Director of Higher Education Prasad Lolienkar has been appointed as the nodal officer while Director of Science and Technology Levinson Martins is the member convener. 

The order states that the committee will be responsible to oversee and conduct the event, slated to be held on December 13 and 14, while it will also have the powers to take decisions in respect to matters concerning administration besides finalisation of scientist of Nobel laureates. The decision on finances will be subject to government approval. 

The chairman will have the power to invite/co-opt officials in the executive committee and requisition staff vehicles as well as seek other logistical support from the State governments, corporations and agencies. “The chairman shall also have powers to nominate officials to travel to invite novel laureates/scientists for the event and to constitute sub-committees for various purposes,” the order reads. 

The committee also comprises  NIO Director, GTDC MD Nikhil Desai, Education Director Nagaraj Honnekeri, Goa University Professor M K Janarthanam, Goa Vidnyan Parishad President Suhas Ghodse, Director of Art and Culture Gurudas Pilarnkar, Director of Information and Publicity Meghna Shetgaonkar, Additional Secretary Finance Sunil Masurkar, scientist Sujetkumar Dongre, and other officers namely Sanjeev Joglekar, Dipak Gaitonde, Dominic Fernandes and Sangeeta Naik as its members.
