PANJIM: Hinting at Sanatan Dharma Prachar Seva Samiti, President Sadhvi Saraswati’s statement to hang people who consume beef, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday warned of stern action against those trying to promote lawlessness.

Saraswati’s statement at the All-India Hindu Convention invited wrath from various organisations and the Opposition questioning the government's silence.

“There are some sections of the society which repeatedly want to raise some issues often which have no relation with Goa. The State Government has already come clean on these issues. The confusion, if any, has been done purposely,” said Parrikar while addressing the gathering on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day.

“There is no harm if anyone practises things which are legally allowed. But if anyone tries to do things which are not permissible in the law, strict action would be taken against them. The Government is clear about these issues. There may be confusion amongst people (on the issue). Some confusion has been created purposely, some confusion happened due to ignorance,” he added.

Parrikar said there is no need for the chief minister to issue statements on all issues.

Meanwhile, Parrikar said that the state government aims to make Goa a plastic-free and garbage-free zone by June 18, 2018.

“It is for the people to make Goa plastic and garbage free by June 18, 2018. Let’s take a pledge to achieve this. The government’s clarity on this issue is clear and the government will never abandon this issue," he said. Parrikar further stated that the state government would be making it mandatory to have dustbins in buses for which the order would come by July. “All the buses will have to mandatorily keep dustbins and these bins would be then cleaned at each terminus,” he added.
