PONDA: The road widening work of Baytakhol-Borim to Curti stretch has resumed. Work on the majority of the stretch has been completed; however, this extra space is now being used by truckers to park their vehicles as well as occupied by stray cattle.

The widening work of respective roads has been underway for the last few months and had slowed down during the monsoon season. After Ganesh Chaturthi, the work has picked up again. Container trucks are seen parked on the widened road which pose danger to the regular traffic.

Stray cattle occupying the road have also proven to be extremely hazardous for the motorists especially the two-wheeler riders. Two-wheeler riders have been injured in the past after ramming into the cattle in the dark. Stray cattle as well as dogs frequent this area to feast on garbage dumped by the roadside.

After strong opposition from the locals, authorities had directed the truckers to not park their vehicles at Curti but the truck owners coming from other states have started to park their vehicles on the extended stretch. It can be recalled that an anonymous person had stolen mobile phones and cash from the trucks parked here by spraying chloroform on the drivers.
