PANJIM: The State government has warned to suspend the licences of all those private hospitals referring critical patients to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim after treating them for several days and fleecing them.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday announced to conduct an inquiry against the private hospitals that indulge in referring the last stage patients to GMC.
He said that many patients of private hospitals are sent out of the hospitals when the patient is in the last stage and the private hospital is not able to do anything.
Stating that the common man should not be taken for granted by private hospitals, Rane said, “We have come across two hospitals which are going on doing referrals to GMC. I have the figures with me from which hospital patients have been referred. These hospitals first finish the entire DDSSY limit and then refer the patients to GMC,” he said.
The minister said that such cases need to be investigated and action has to be taken against such hospitals under Clinical Establishment Act.
“We will conduct an inquiry on such hospitals. The Clinical Establishment Act will be strictly implemented. If I get any referral of last stage patients from private hospitals to GMC, there will be an inquiry and strict action will be taken,” he said.
“If anyone has to be admitted to a private hospital, but is not granted admission, then their licence will be suspended under the Act,” he warned.
Addressing a Mega Medical Camp at Khotode Panchayat in Sattari, Rane also said that instances have come to the notice of the government that many Covid patients are denied admission by private hospitals. “Such patients, including those who have contracted Covid infection are referred to GMC. Due to this, the pressure on GMC is increasing,” he said.
