PANJIM: Keeping in view the planning requirement of the State, the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Board on Thursday decided to redraft almost 50-year-old Town and Country Planning Act.

The current Town and Country Planning Act was drafted and enacted in 1974.

The Board which held its meeting under TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane has also decided to direct the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) and South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) to keep open the outline development plans (ODPs) of Panjim, Taleigao, Mapusa, Ponda and Margao for public suggestions and objections.

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Rane said considering the planning requirement for now and future, the Board felt the need to relook the Town and Country Planning Act, which was drafted way back in 1974.

Rane said an expert committee will be formed in this regard.

The minister said he will be on the committee which will comprise MLAs Deviya Rane and Rajesh Faldesai and representatives from real estate field.

“The Town and Country Planning Act has been amended several times as per requirement, but now it's the time when we need to have a relook," he said.

Further, the Minister said that the corrections made to the Panjim, Taleigao, Mapusa, Ponda and Margao outline development plans will be kept open for public. "The entire process of finalising the outline development plans has to be completed within two to three months," he said.

Rane said care will be taken to see that low-lying areas, no development zones and other restricted areas are not included in outline development plans.
