PANJIM: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday released a charge sheet against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and the previous Congress regime in the State claiming there was political instability, misrule and suffering during the last 20 years.

The charge sheet was released by TMC MP Mohua Moitra in the presence of party leaders MP Saugata Roy, former Union Minister Babul Supriyo and TMC national vice president Luizinho Faleiro, among others.

“State economy is at its worst, basic infrastructure is still in shambles, mining is suspended, State sponsored destruction of environment, fishermen and farmers have been betrayed, healthcare and education have been destroyed,” it claimed.

Moitra claimed that law and order had reached the lowest ebb in the State. “We are here with every single woman who cannot walk on the streets feeling safe, we are here with every single youth who cannot get a job because of 25 per cent unemployment and we are here with every single Goan, who cannot buy a home in their own State. We are here to stay and we will fight to the finish,” she said.

Moitra further said the representation for women in the Assembly was low in Goa, whereas TMC has over 41 per cent representation for women.

Supriyo said people were disillusioned with the BJP and the Congress and that the TMC is with the people of Goa. He said that the double engine government can double the failures and was responsible for destroying many areas in Goa. “We will fight to give a Goan government – of, by and for the people of Goa,” he said.

Roy flayed the BJP government for suspension of mining activity, environmental destruction and vitiation of the social environment. “Goa was considered safe but with the death of Siddhi Naik, the government’s claim stands exposed,” he said and demanded a proper inquiry in the case.

Faleiro in his address said that Goa has been going backwards. Goans are suffering and seeing bad days. Goans whom we spoke to, want a change from Pernem to Canacona.

“The human development indicators, good governance indicators are at the lowest today. We need to unite to make Goa a model State as had been dreamt of by the freedom fighters,” he said.

Yatish Naik said, “Every Goan has a debt of Rs 1.53 lakh on their head. So, you can imagine how successive governments have looted the State coffers.” TMC has the will and resolve, and it is the party which is going to consider Goans as the high command, he said.
