MARGAO: Anti-Corruption Branch Panjim arrested the Talathi of Seraulim village Naresh Komarpant while accepting bribe on Friday and recovered Rs 10,000 that was paid as the initial payment of the bribe.
Naresh reportedly asked a person to pay him Rs 6 lakhs to get a favourable report to be able to purchase a plot under the 20-point programme. However, the person reportedly pleaded that he could not pay that much of amount and Naresh came down to Rs 2 lakhs.
Accordingly the complainant agreed to pay the advance to Naresh who was called to a reputed restaurant near the KTC bus stand at Margao and they entered Naresh’s car where the payment was made and police who had laid the trap swooped down and arrested Naresh.
The ACB team was led by Police Inspector Francisco Corte and comprised Sunil Palkar, KG Manoj, Anand Kolambkar, Swapnil Salgaonkar and Sunita Karapurkar. “We would not like to disclose the complainant’s name to protect him given the fact that very few people come forward to lodge such complaints,” said PI Francisco.
