Taleigao Village Panchayat polls today, 14 candidates in the fray

PANJIM: The Taleigao village is geared up for its panchayat elections, which are set to take place, on Sunday, April 28. 

According to the State Election Commission (SEC), a total of 22 candidates had filed their nominations. However, after withdrawal of nominations, candidates from Ward I, Ward VI, Ward X and Ward XI were elected unopposed.

Now a total 14 candidates are in fray for seven wards. The poll timing has been set from 8 am to 5 pm. The panchayat elections will be held on non-party lines and by secret ballot.

The SEC has appointed Bhagwant Karmali, Dy Collector, Tiswadi, as the General Observer, and Suryakant Naik, Accountant, as the Expenditure Observer.

Agnelo Rodrigues, Damodar Tari and Rajesh Tarkar have been entrusted with monitoring the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.

The expenditure limit per ward for a candidate was Rs 40,000. The counting of votes will take place on April 29, 2024, at the auditorium, Bal Bhavan, Campal, from 8 am onwards.

There are a total of 11,988 voters out of whom 5690 are males and 6298 females. There are 17 polling booths where voters can cast their votes.

The campaigning for elections to Taleigao village panchayat ended on Friday at 5 pm.
