PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade has come under severe criticism for displaying the national flag upside down.

The incident occurred during a programme organised by Revenue Minister Babush Monserrate at his Miramar office on Tuesday when Tanavade in an embarrassing goof-up displayed the national flag upside down.

Reacting to it, Congress chief spokesman Amarnath Panjikar said that before launching the ‘Tiranga Jagruti,’ Tanavade must learn how to hold the tricolour and not disrespect it.

“Goa Bharatiya Janata Party president Sadanand Shet Tanavade insulted the Tiranga by displaying it upside down. I urge him to take lessons on how to respect our National flag before going on his political mission of ‘Tiranga Jagruti,’” Panjikar said.

Panjikar said that the BJP government and its party functionaries are using high-handedness to gain political mileage by showing fake patriotism and jumla nationalism. The symbolism of BJP with ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is only a publicity stunt, he said.

Panjikar said that videos show Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leader and former Karnataka Governor walking away when the national anthem is played.

“BJP functionaries are trying to take cheap mileage using the national flag”, he said.
