MARGAO: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has convicted former minister and current BJP vice president Ramesh Tawadkar in an assault case registered against him in 2017. The point of the sentence will be pronounced on October 28. 

In his complaint to the Canacona Police, Puno Velip had stated that he and his friend were travelling to Chaudi on a two-wheeler when they were stopped by a car with a red beacon of the then minister Tawadkar. Puno further alleged that Tawadkar threatened to kill him. An FIR was registered and the case was investigated by PSI Damodar Shirodkar. 

A charge sheet was filed under Sections 341, 352, and 506 (ii) of the IPC. 

The prosecution was represented by APP Aniruddh A Prabhu Chimulkar. 

A total of four witnesses were examined. 

Tawadkar has been acquitted under Section 341 but has been convicted under Sections 352 for assault and 506 (ii) for criminal intimidation with a threat to kill.
