PANJIM: The taxi operators on Saturday threatened to work against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Assembly elections if its government fails to scrap the GoaMiles App taxi services.

Speaking to the media persons at Azad Maidan, here, the taxi operators strongly condemned the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar for claiming that he was instrumental in bringing app-based taxi service because the taxi operators were refusing to fit taxi meters to their vehicles.

The taxi operators claimed that Ajgaonkar had never discussed the issue of starting app-based taxi service in the State. They vowed to work against the BJP candidates particularly those contesting in the coastal belt of North Goa District.

“We will go door-to-door in Mandrem and Pernem Constituencies and campaign against sitting MLA Dayanand Sopte and Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar and appeal to the people to ensure their defeat in the ensuing elections,” said Laxman alias Bappa Korgaonkar, a taxi operator.

“We challenge the BJP to accept our challenge and get their candidates elected in Mandrem, Pernem, Siolim, Calangute and Saligao Constituencies in the coming Assembly elections,” said another taxi operator demanding that the government should immediately scrap GoaMiles App taxi service.
