MAPUSA: Acting on the complaint filed by GOACAN, the Directorate of Transport on Thursday initiated action on encroachment of the passenger seating area and access to bus bay No. 5 at Mapusa Bus Stand. A Tea stall was permitted by Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL)at the stand.

In a letter to the managing director KTCL recently, the Dy. Director Transport (Admin) Nancy Fernandes has stated that action will be initiated by KTCL to restore the land at the Bus Stand to its original position in 15 days.

On November 17, last year, the Assistant Director of Transport Mapusa Asstt Motor Vehicle Inspector along with officials of KTCL had conducted inspection of the site during which, it was found that passengers lounge bus Bay No. 5 of the KTC Bus Stand which was an open area has been converted into a commercial shop (tea stall) in the aforesaid property without NOC of the Transport Department

The Fire Officers from Mapusa Fire Station present at the inspection had pointed out that this kind of increased commercial activity in the limited seating and movement area for the passengers can be a fire hazard.

GOACAN had said, "we can understand that KTCL seeks to increase its revenue from increasing commercial activity at the Bus Stand, but we are unable to understand why this activity is sought to be done at the cost of the comfort and safety of the passengers."
